Maintaining Animal Sanctuaries
Spread over 11 Dzongkhags (Provinces) in about 22 animal sanctuaries, Jangsa currently maintains about 600 bulls, 300 yaks, 137 pigs, 23 sheep, 300 goats and 80 dogs in Bhutan. In Jangsa Gonpa in Kalimpong, Jangsa takes care of 50 bulls and two large tanks of fishes. At present, 17 salaried caretakers attend to and look after more than 3000 animals in the kingdom.
